NEW DELHI: Senior congress leader P Chidambaram hit the Center on Friday and said that finance ministers and MSMEs should “settle their accounts” first and allow MSMEs to save themselves without government “help”.
He highlighted the differences between Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and MSM Minister Nitin Gadkari, and the latter said that governments and UPMs owe Rs 5 lakh crore as unpaid installments to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), while Sitharaman said the government will make him offer unsecured loans worth Rs 3 lakh crore to MSMEs.
“Minister Gadkari says that governments and UPMs owe Rs 5 million to MSMEs as unpaid installments to MSMEs. Minister Sitharaman says she will offer a free loan of Rs 3 million to MSMEs (for a total of 45 lakhs So who is the lender and who is the lender? The borrower ?!
“The two ministers will ‘settle their accounts’ first and allow MSMEs to save themselves without the ‘help’ of the government,” Chidambaram, a former union finance minister, said in a series of tweets.

Another congressional leader, Jairam Ramesh, hit the government and said that what Sitharaman announced as part of an economic package was announced in the budget.
“Madam Minister of Finance, a simple question. What is the EXTRA cash you are putting into the system for the next 6 months?
“The announcements he made today are primarily contained in his budget presented on February 1. Another case of repackaging and remarketing,” the former Union minister said on Twitter.
Ramesh also noted that food minister Ramvilas Paswan had spoken on June 29 of last year about ‘one nation, one ration card’, while the finance minister spoke of the same thing again on Thursday.
“‘Atmanirbhar arthashastra’ means maximum recycling and repackaging. An example: Ram Vilas Paswan makes an announcement on June 29, 2019 for ‘One Nation One Ration Card’. Nirmala Sitharaman repeats the same announcement on May 14, 2020,” he said. in another tweet.

“One government, many Jumlas,” said Ramesh.
“80% of the fake 20 lakh crore package was announced. What more recycling and tricks are left? How many more jumlas will India suffer as the pain, agony and anguish intensify,” asked the congressional leader.
