Anyone who has watched the Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals clash was not particularly impressed with MS Dhoni’s approach when the team was chasing a goal of more than 200. A lot of former cricketers have criticized Dhoni for his batting. One of them is Virender Sehwag.

He also went on to comment on some of the decisions he made as captain, which were objectionable. Speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag said: “The three 6s MS Dhoni hit in the last over made it look like CSK was getting closer to the target, but the reality was somewhat different. In between, it looked like Dhoni wasn’t even trying to chase the target considering the number of point balls he played.
“I feel like Dhoni could have hit higher or even sent Ravindra Jadeja to hit after Sam Curran came out. The execution rate slowed in the middle. If that hadn’t happened and it had taken around 20-22 runs to win on the final lap, the three sixes that Dhoni hit would have made people say ‘wow, what an ending,’ ”added the 41-year-old.
“If it takes more than 30 races, those three six would not make a difference. I think Dhoni could have surpassed Kedar Jadhav at least. The number of balls that Jadhav played, if Dhoni had been the one that had faced them, CSK would not have ended with the deficit of 17-18 runs they made, ”he further explained.
“Even while CSK was playing, the Dhoni captaincy had some strange decisions. He continued to give in to Jadeja and Piyush Chawla even though they had leaks. The four overs that CSK spinners threw at Sanju Samson put the game in Rajasthan’s favor, ”said Sehwag.

“Dhoni then brought in Lungi Ngidi, who fired Samson and then Chawla returned to the attack. In his last two overs, Chawla only conceded 8 runs. This shows that Dhoni should have made these changes earlier, ”opined the former India starter.
“He had two ‘failures’ in his captaincy against RR. First in terms of getting the spinners to hit Samson and second in terms of his batting position. If I have to rate Dhoni’s captaincy today, I will probably give him a four out of ten, ”Sehwag said.
