Anuppur, October 20
Even as the dispute over Congressional Leader Kamal Nath’s comment on a female minister has yet to cease, a BJP minister in Madhya Pradesh faces criticism for allegedly using a derogatory term for the wife of a Congressional candidate.
In a video that went viral on Monday, Minister Bisahulal Singh, who is contesting the November 3 Assembly pass from Anuppur, was heard describing the second wife of Congressional candidate Vishwanath Singh Kunjam as “lover.”
“Why does Vishwanath Singh hide information about his first wife and mention his ‘Rakhail’ (lover) in the nomination papers? He has not given information about his first wife, but about his lover, ”he was heard saying.
Kunjam called Bisahulal Singh’s statement unfounded and said he would file a defamation lawsuit against him.
“I got married 15 years ago and I have a 14-year-old daughter. I will file a libel suit against him. This exposes the character of the BJP candidate. On the one hand, they are staging a drama of silent fasting and on the other hand, they disrespect women, “he said.
The BJP minister could not be reached for his reaction.
BJP state spokesman Rajnish Agrawal said he could not contact Singh because he was campaigning in interior areas.
BJP leaders in Madhya Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, sat on Monday for a two-hour silent fast to protest Kamal Nath’s comment in which he referred to Minister of State Imarti Devi as “element “during an electoral rally.
By-elections for 28 Assembly seats in the state will be held on November 3. PTI
