New Delhi:
Today, after seven months in the shadow of the pandemic, movie theaters will reopen in various parts of the country. Cinemas and multiplexes, closed since March due to the coronavirus crisis, recently allowed operations to resume according to the guidelines issued in Unlock 5.
Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, some of the states where movie theaters will reopen.
Theaters and multiplexes will remain closed in states such as Maharashtra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Chhattisgarh. Movie theaters in the northeastern states will not open today as the states have not issued any guidelines.
Fifty percent occupancy, staggered show hours, social distancing, thermal screens, adequate protective gear for staff, and mandatorily providing phone numbers to “trace contacts” are some of the changes viewers will see.
In the food and beverage section, all food will be sterilized under UV rays in a machine for eight minutes before being delivered to the customer. The popcorn containers will be completely covered with paper lids. Despite additional arrangements, movie theater officials stated that ticket and food prices will remain the same as pre-COVID rates.
A summary of Covid’s safety regulations and punishment, should they not be followed, would become part of the usual announcements before and after the show.
Floor and seat markers for social distancing, thermal scanning, and “respiratory tag” are among the changes users should be aware of after they are allowed entry by being cleared as “asymptomatic.”
However, there are no new releases in theaters this week. Several old movies will be re-released. The latest theatrical release of Sushant Singh Rajput, Chhichhore, Kedarnath, Tanhaji, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, Malang, War and Thappad are among the films that will return to the big screen.
The PVR chain of movie theaters across the country will open starting tomorrow. PVR Cinemas has about 500 theaters nationwide in states where theaters are reopening.
Compared to the days before Covid, shows in movie theaters will be far fewer in number, with screenings in most cinemas only between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. To reduce contact, the center’s guidelines promote usage of digital payment systems in, the increase in the number of counters at the box office for single screen cinemas and the frequent cleaning of the area.
