New Delhi: Delhi Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday (May 10) urged migrant workers in the national capital to stay and not travel home on foot, saying “it is not safe.” He said the government is organizing more trains for them.

“We are organizing more trains for migrants. I ask them not to travel on foot. It is not safe. We assume their responsibility. We are here to take care of them,” he said in a video message.

Speaking of coronavirus cases in the city, Kejriwal said that with 381 new cases, the count in the national capital is 6,923. “In Delhi, 75 percent of COVID-19 cases are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic. We have arranged for the treatment of those in their homes with mild symptoms. Of the total 6,923 cases, only 1,476 are admitted to hospitals while the rest are receiving treatment in their homes or quarantine centers, “said the chief minister.

He added that at least 82 percent of the 73 deaths from coronavirus in the national capital were from people over 50. “We are seeing more deaths among older people,” said Kejriwal.

The prime minister said the government also issued an order to request ambulances from private hospitals, adding that the decision was made in the wake of a shortage of state ambulances. “They (private ambulances) will have to be put into service when the government requires their service,” Kejriwal said while speaking to an online press conference.
