With PUBG Mobile India announcing the game’s return to the country, esports teams and players are looking to clear things up on their teams and start working again for upcoming tournaments. The brief hiatus that followed the ban on the game left many teams and players without practice.
The latest announcement of plans came from popular streamer and esports gamer Mortal. In a recent live stream on YouTube, he announced that in the future he would step down from IGL and become the sixth member of Team Soul. He further stated that he would mentor his team from the rear with his vast experience in PUBG Mobile esports.
PUBG Mobile star Mortal to become Team SouL’s mentor
Mortal is a household name among PUBG lovers across the country. His rise to fame since the game’s release has been meteoric. Recently, he was also nominated for the 2020 Esports Awards in two categories.
In 2019, along with Team SouL he won two consecutive PUBG Mobile tournaments and the mobile esports scene in India on fire. Team SouL, in what could be called a dream race, won Dream Hack 2018, PUBG Mobile India Series and PUBG Mobile Club Open Spring Split 2019: India. Although the team did not rank among the best at the Berlin Global Finals, it still managed to finish second at the PUBG Mobile Club Open Fall Split 2019: South Asia. Such was its dominance in PUBG Mobile esports in the South Asia region in 2019.
The year 2020 has been a tough one for Team SouL when it comes to performance. They were unable to emulate the same career they had in 2019 due to multiple factors. In the process of rebuilding the team after many of their former players left, they changed the IGLs frequently. Sometimes these changes occurred between tournaments. This was one of the reasons for his poor performance.
However, in the latter part of the year, the team got back on track with Mortal assuming the role of IGL on the team. But after the game was banned in the country, players were unable to grind and play properly. After the announcement of the game’s return, Mortal decided to become a mentor. According to him, this decision was made with the best interests of the team in mind. However, details of the full lineup going forward have not been made public.
