The father of veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, Basantakumar Chakraborty, passed away in Mumbai on Tuesday. He was 95 years old and had been battling age-related illnesses for some time.
Mithun Chakraborty is currently trapped in Bangalore due to the blockade. He was there for a photo shoot and after the 21-day national shutdown was announced, he had to stay in Bangalore. The actor is trying to get to Mumbai to perform his last rites.
Popular Bengali actress Rituparna Sengupta confirmed the news on Twitter and shared a message of condolence for Mithun and her family. She wrote: “My deepest condolences for the sudden disappearance of her father, Mithun Da. Stay strong and may his soul rest in peace forever (sic). “

Basantakumar Chakraborty is survived by his wife Santimoyee Chakraborty, their eldest son Gouranga Chakraborty, also known as Mithun and his family. Reports suggest that Mithun’s eldest son Mimoh Chakraborty is in Mumbai.
