All police stations in Uttar Pradesh would have to install a glass room for complainants to present their complaints to female police personnel. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the installation of a secret glass-enclosed room in police stations across the state would help female whistleblowers to speak freely with female police officers.
UP’s 1,535 police stations would now also have a help desk for women. Adityanath opened these help desks for women on Friday.
These initiatives are part of the ‘Mission Shakti’ campaign that was started at UP to ensure that women’s safety is given the highest priority.
All hotline numbers: 1090, 181, 112, 1076, 1098 and 102 will be displayed at the help desk and in secret rooms so that whistleblowers can call for help when they need it. An action warning about misuse of the helpline will also be mentioned in the help desk.
The help desk must be equipped with CCTV and a computer and there must be seating arrangements for police personnel and the complainant. The complainant should also be provided with stationery to write her complaint, CM said.
Adityanath said respect for women must be instilled in individuals and Mission Shakti programs must be organized in educational institutions across the state. An effort should be made to make respect for women a tradition in schools through morning assembly prayers and cultural events, he said.

The launch of Mission Shakti has triggered a political upheaval in the state with elements trying to make incidents disproportionate and being pushed off the back foot, he said.
Adityanath also praised the efforts of the state police, adding that the chief secretary and officials from the prime minister’s office will review the activities of the various state government departments associated with Mission Shakti.

The scope of Mission Shakti must be expanded as it aims to change people’s attitudes towards women. More people should be motivated to join the campaign, as the connection of ordinary people with the machinery of government will pave the way for the success of the campaign, he said.
The prime minister also spoke with teachers, police personnel, representatives of voluntary organizations and representatives of the people at the help desk for women in the police stations located in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Lucknow, Varanasi, Meerut and Agra districts.
People’s representatives said that the measures taken by the state government have instilled a sense of security and trust among the women.
