The number of deaths in India has nearly doubled in the past sixteen days. The number of infections is now double what it was thirteen days, and given the rate of growth in this period, could achieve the 200,000-mark in a week.

These five states have registered 82 percent of all the covid-related deaths in India so far. The case of the rates of mortality vary widely. In West Bengal, 7.3% of those who tested positive for the coronavirus have died – the worst rate of mortality. Among all the states that have had deaths, case fatality rates are the lowest in Bihar (0.5%), Odisha (0.5%), and Kerala (0.6%).
It is worth noting that the quality of data on cases and deaths vary between countries and regions, due to factors such as differences in the testing standards, and protocols followed for the recording of covid-related deaths.
Maharashtra now has 35,186 patients remain in treatment, the majority in the country, followed by Tamil Nadu with 8,233 active cases and Delhi with 7,006. Gujarat slipped to fourth place in the list with 6,936 active cases and Rajasthan fifth with 3,182. Among the districts, Mumbai, thane, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, and have seen the largest jump in confirmed cases in the last two days. Other districts that have experienced a strong rebound in the last two days, Raigarh and Palghar in Maharashtra and kancheepuram which is home to Tamil Nadu.
Up to now, 244 districts have had deaths in the country. Mumbai (1,026 deaths) has been reported that the majority of deaths among all districts, followed by Ahmedabad (722) in the state of Gujarat, Pune (271) in Maharashtra, Kolkata (184) in the West of Bengal, and Indore (115), in Madhya Pradesh. These five districts now account for 60 percent of the deaths in the country.
Thane (110) in Maharashtra, Chennai (91) in the state of Tamil Nadu, Jaipur (79) in Rajasthan, Surat (62) in the state of Gujarat and Ujjain (52) in Madhya Pradesh are the other districts with the greatest of tolls. The ten districts which represent 70 percent of all deaths at the national level. The district wise data for Delhi are not available and therefore not part of this list.
The number of infections by coronaviruses is likely to continue to grow in the coming days, as India ramps up its testing. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, about 31.3 lakh samples have been tested so far, including 92,528 in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the global coronavirus number of cases has crossed 5.4 million dollars, with more than 346,000 deaths and 2.2 million of recoveries.
