An eight-year-old girl in the Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh was allegedly raped by her 20-year-old neighbor in a village in the area of the Jiyanpur police station on Wednesday, police said, adding that the defendant has been arrested.
The accused was well known to the family of the survivor and used to visit her home frequently. On Wednesday, he convinced her to accompany him outside, where the incident occurred, Azamgarh Police Superintendent Sudhir Kumar Singh said.
Singh said the girl informed her parents after the boy took her home, after which her mother filed a complaint at the Jiyanpur police station. A case against the accused has been registered in the relevant sections of the IPC and she has been arrested.
Singh said the girl has been sent for a medical examination and the case is being investigated.
