New Delhi:
A small explosion took place in front of the Israeli embassy in central Delhi on Friday night, police said, adding that no injuries had been reported and the area had been cordoned off.
The blast took place less than two kilometers from Vijaya Chowk, where President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior members of the government have gathered for the “Striking Withdrawal” ceremony.
Police sources said the explosive, a suspected IED, had been wrapped in a plastic bag and left on the pavement, where it detonated, damaging the windshields of four or five cars parked nearby.
Initial reports suggest no injuries, but there has been a heavy police deployment and the Abdul Kalam road has been cordoned off. Senior police officers have arrived at the scene.
Images from the area showed police personnel standing outside the building, with officers inspecting the yellow-black pavement along the side of the road.
