Hyderabad: The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has recommended that patients who have recovered from COVID-19, particularly those who experienced acute illness from coronavirus infection, consume a daily dose of the Ayurvedic preparation chyawanprash as part of your daily routine.
This, along with yoga practice, gargling, daily walks, are among the other recommendations the ministry made in a protocol published Sunday for post-COVID care to boost immunity.
The ministry said its recommendations point to an “integrated holistic approach” to managing patients who have recovered enough from COVID-19 to receive care at home.
“It is not intended to be used as preventive / curative therapy. The recovery period is likely to be longer for patients who suffered a more severe form of the disease and those with pre-existing illnesses, ”the ministry said.
Along with this approach, the ministry said that recovered patients should follow their doctors’ advice on medications and lifestyle changes. They must have their first follow-up visit (physical / telephone) within seven days of recovery, and must be discharged if admitted to hospitals, “preferably at the hospital where they underwent treatment.”
Additional follow-up visits could be to the nearest qualified Ayush or allopathic physician / medical center from other systems of medicine.
Patients should be alert to the reappearance of symptoms and seek medical advice if they appear.
India has around 35.5 lakh of recovered patients. Covid-19 patients experiencing acute illness are likely to continue to report a wide variety of signs and symptoms including fatigue, body aches, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, etc.
As of now, there is limited evidence of post-COVID-19 anomalies and further investigation is required and is being actively conducted, the ministry said.
