NEW DELHI: Indian soldiers now you will finally get modern hand grenades instead of dealing with old WWII design ones. the Ministry of Defence on Thursday it signed a contract of Rs 409 crore with a private Indian company for the supply of 10 lakh of ‘multimode’ hand grenades.
The contract for the hand grenades, which were designed by DRDO’s Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratories (TBRL), was signed with M / s Economic Explosive Ltd (EEL) or the Nagpur Solar Group. The contract will run in two years.
This is the first contract of this type signed with a national private company. In the past, these ammunition products were imported or manufactured by the state-owned Artillery Factory Board (OFB), which has 41 factories.
Hand pomegranate The project has been hanging on fire since 2011 because the same grenades made by OFB repeatedly failed the DGQA (Directorate-General for Quality Assurance) tests. It was finally approved by the Defense Procurement Council in March 2019, and the contract was signed on Thursday.
“These grenades, which will replace existing old-design WWII used by armyThey have a distinctive design because they can be used in both fragmentation and stun modes, ”said a defense ministry official.
“This is a flagship project showcasing a public-private partnership that enables the government’s ‘AtmaNirbharta’ initiative in cutting-edge ammunition technologies and 100% indigenous content,” he added.
