Patna:
Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad declared on Sunday that severe action will be taken against the nation’s breakers of the “Tukde Tukde Gang” who are trying to take advantage of the farmers’ movement against the new agricultural laws.
Mr Prasad, who is Union Minister of Law and Justice, made the statement by launching the “Kisan Chaupal Sammelan” (farmers conference) across the state of Bihar BJP in support of the three agricultural laws in the village of Tekbigha in the Bakhtiarpur constituency of Patna district.
“They (those protesting the agricultural laws) are saying that they will not withdraw their movement unless these laws are withdrawn. We would like to say that the Narendra Modi government respects farmers, but we would like to make it clear that action will be taken. “The tukde tukde gang” takes advantage of the farmers’ movement, “Prasad said.
“I want to ask who are these people who are speaking the language of the destruction of the country … Lawsuits are now being raised to release the supposed intellectuals who are in jail for participating in riots in Delhi and Maharashtra.
“The police have presented indictments, they cannot get a bond from the court as the trials are ongoing. Now these people have taken refuge under the farmers’ movement for their interest, but we will not allow them to succeed in their goal,” Prasad said.
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar earlier called on protesting farmers to be vigilant against misuse of their platform by “anti-social” elements as well as “leftists and Maoists” who conspire to spoil the atmosphere.
He had said so on Friday after photographs of some protesters on the Tikri border who were seen holding signs demanding the release of activists arrested on various charges went viral.
The Minister of Food, Railways and Consumer Affairs, Piyush Goyal, has been more direct in his position, claiming that certain leftist and Maoist elements appear to have taken “control” of the agitation and instead of arguing over agricultural issues, they seem to have another agenda. .
Enacted in September, the three farm laws have been projected by the government as major reforms in the agricultural sector that will cut out middlemen and allow farmers to sell anywhere in the country.
The protesting farmers have expressed their fear that the new laws would pave the way to remove the safety cushion of the Minimum Livelihood Price and wipe out the mandis, leaving them at the mercy of large corporations.
The Center has maintained that the MSP and Mandi mechanisms will remain.
Mr. Prasad stated that all three laws have been enacted to benefit farmers, especially the small and marginalized across the country, and wondered why opposition parties and Punjab farmers are agitating against the laws that will liberate to farmers in the Mandi system chains as far as possible. sell your products anywhere in the country.
“The laws give farmers the opportunity to sell their products in Mandi or PACS or outside the scope of mandi, PACS or Vyapar Mandal … I just want to ask whether or not farmers have that freedom or opportunity. It is beyond the they understand because they are opposed to the laws, “he said.
The minister cited examples of farmers from Kishanganj and Aurangabad in Bihar who made a lot of money selling a lakh MT of pineapple and 200 MT of strawberry to merchants in Kolkata, respectively.
“Why is the makhana (gorgon nut) from northern Bihar sold locally and why is it not given access to the global market? He asked.
Under farm law, those who enter into agreements with farmers cannot sell, lease or mortgage farmers’ land, Mr. Prasad said, adding that companies (who enter into an agreement) will provide quality seeds, techniques to farmers, they will buy their products and finally the farmers get money sitting at home.
If any company is found to be committing wrongdoing with farmers or harassing them, then both the Narendra Modi government in the Center and the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar, which strongly support the farmers, will send the wayward person to jail, said the minister.
