NEW DELHI: postponed sine die eight days before its scheduled duration, the shortened monsoon session of Lok Sabha witnessed a record 167% productivity with several key bills passed, although the opposition withdrew from the proceedings on the final day in protest of the fight that took place in Rajya sabha on Sunday.
Lok Sabha passed 25 bills and 16 were reintroduced as the government had set its agenda to get the bills passed, many of them ordinances.
Although 37 hours were scheduled in the 10 sessions that took place in 10 days without a single break, the Casa worked for more than 60 hours, including weekends. While 68% of the time was for legislative business, the rest was used for Zero Hour and debates.

Spokesperson OP Birla said: “This session was held in unprecedented times, I am glad that all members rose to the occasion and placed their duties as public representatives at their highest priority.”
At Zero Hour, 370 MPs raised issues, including 88 who spoke on September 20 as the House passed midnight. Up to 181 issues of public importance were raised through Rule 377 and 855 documents submitted by ministers. Of 78 women parliamentarians, 60 spoke during the 10 days of the procedure. In addition, the government responded to 2,300 questions without an asterisk.
“You have become the hero of Zero Hour”, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi Birla said as she appreciated him for leading the House proceedings during the challenging time of the Covid-19 pandemic.
As the session was shortened due to the pandemic, the businesses of private members were omitted. Therefore, no private members bill was presented or discussed.
Several important bills were passed in monsoon of parliament this year. Some of them include the Draft Law on Trade in Agricultural Products and Trade (Promotion and Facilitation), the Farmers Agreement (Empowerment and Protection) on Price Guarantee and Agricultural Services Law, and the Amendment to the Law on Essential Products of 1955, the FCRA Amendment Act, Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages ​​Bill and three labor code bills: the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, the Kashmir Code of Social Securityand the Labor Relations Code.
