Hundreds of migrant workers took to the streets and clashed with police in a village in Gujarat’s Surat district on Saturday to demand that they be sent back to their home states or allowed to resume work in industrial units. locals to make money, police said. .

The incident took place in the village of Mora, near the industrial city of Hazira.
“More than 100 workers were detained after they took to the streets, demanding that they be sent back home or allowed to work in the industrial units they worked in in Hazira and pay them wages,” said the joint police commissioner ( Sector 2) DN Patel said.
The protesting workers left their homes in the workers’ colony in the village of Mora and began walking in a large group towards the Hazira industrial area, he said.
The migrants demanded that the district administration make arrangements for their return to their home towns in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha and other states, Patel said.
“Some workers threw stones at the police, after which four tear gas shells were thrown and we had to resort to loading the baton to control the rebel mob,” Patel said.
The cases were recorded based on CCTV images of the area, the senior official said, adding that the situation was currently under control. – PTI
