Microsoft has announced that it will allow its employees to work from home permanently. According to a report by
The edge Microsoft has sent an “inside guide” to its employees explaining that they can choose to work from home for “less than 50% of their workweek” or they can even get approval from their manager to work remotely forever. However, much depends on the role of the employee and not everyone will be able to take the work from home forever.

Microsoft employees can also move to any part of the country or even move to another country. With that said, benefits, salary, and other benefits will differ if someone moves to a new region and will be based on the company’s regional pay policies. The company will also help employees set up their home offices and cover costs. Another interesting aspect is that employees will be able to choose their own work schedule and no manager approval would be required for it. They can even request part-time work hours.

Microsoft had previously announced that it would give its employees the option to work from home until October. Amazon, led by Jeff Bezos, has also told staff whose work can be done from home that they can do it until at least October 2, lengthening the back-to-work schedule for many employees as it faces scrutiny over conditions in their warehouses, as according to a recent Reuters report.

In India, IT and telecommunications minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told a G20 ministers meeting recently that working from home during the ongoing coronavirus-induced lockdown could become a trend in the coming days. IT industry veteran Senapathy (Kris) Gopalakrishnan also said that more than a million information technology employees are expected to continue working from home even after the coronavirus-inflicted lockdown situation returns to normal.
