NEW DELHI: Union states and territories may impose local restrictions such as a nightly curfew to control the spread of Covid-19, but will have to consult with the Center before imposing any closures outside the containment zones, it said Wednesday the Ministry of the Interior.
Issuing guidelines for “Surveillance, Containment, and Precaution” for December, the MHA said the primary focus of the directive is to consolidate the substantial gains that have been made against the spread of Covid-19 that are visible in the steady decline in the number. of active cases in the country.
The guidelines said that considering the recent increase in new cases in some states and UT, the ongoing festival season and the onset of winter, it is emphasized that to fully overcome the pandemic it is necessary to maintain caution and strictly follow the prescribed rules. . containment strategy.
The containment strategy should focus on surveillance, containment and strict adherence to the guidelines and SOPs issued by the MHA and the Ministry of Health, they said.
“The states and UT, based on their assessment of the situation, may impose local restrictions, with a view to containing the spread of Covid-19, such as the night curfew.
“However, the state and UT governments will not impose any local (state / district / subdivision / city level) blockades, outside the containment zones, without prior consultation with the central government,” the guidelines said.
The guidelines are effective from December 1 to December 31.
