Amid the increase in COVID-19 coronavirus cases in the country, the Union Ministry of the Interior issued new guidelines on Wednesday (November 25) regarding surveillance, containment and precaution to slow the spread of the deadly virus.

The guidelines will go into effect on December 1. Under the new guidelines, states and UT may impose local restrictions to contain the spread of COVID-19.

“The states and UT, based on their assessment of the situation, may impose local restrictions, with a view to containing the spread of COVID-19, such as a night curfew. However, state governments and UT will not impose any local blockades / subdivision / city level), outside the containment zones, without prior consultation with the central government, “the guidelines stated.

The ministry said that the local district, police and municipal authorities will be responsible for ensuring that prescribed containment measures are strictly followed. The state and UT governments will guarantee the responsibility of the officials involved in this regard, the ministry said.
