MG Gloster will be offered with loads of features and is expected to be offered in 6 and 7 seat configurations
MG Gloster has been one of the most anticipated premium SUVs in India this year. Since it was first revealed in India at AutoExpo 2020 earlier this year, the SUV has generated considerable buzz among buyers. Although MG has yet to reveal the release date, sources reveal that Gloster’s release is expected around October 7.
Gloster is a renamed Maxus D90 which is retailed in China by SAIC, the parent company of MG Motor. For the uninitiated, the Gloster will be a full-size three-row SUV. The SUV is built on a ladder on the frame chassis and its sheer size ensures it has enough road presence for other cars to make way for it.
Its octagonal three-slat grille gives the viewer a bold and aggressive vibe that is flanked by the MG logo in the center. The aggressive front fascia is complemented by a muscular hood and sleek LED projector headlamps with integrated LED DRL lights. In addition to being huge and muscular, it also has a powerful engine with 4 × 4 system and driving modes. Check out Gloster’s latest TVC video, showing his off-road dexterity.
Gloster also receives LED taillights at the rear and 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels with a silver gray paint scheme. Coming to its size, the full-size SUV measures 5005mm long, 1,932mm wide and 1,875mm high, making it the largest in its class.
Features on offer
Being a premium SUV, the Gloster is said to offer tons of technology to make passenger travel convenient and comfortable. The long list of equipment consists of ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a large 12.3-inch touchscreen system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ISmart connectivity technology, multi-zone climate control, electronic parking brake with automatic holding function and much more.
The Gloster is also equipped with a Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) which performs a variety of functions such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning system, and automatic parking assist. The last feature will make you the Nation’s first Tier 1 autonomous premium SUV. In terms of safety, it will come with front and side airbags for all three rows, driver fatigue alert, ABS with EBD and electronic stability management.
Powertrain and transmission
When it comes to powertrain, MG will offer the Gloster with a 2.0-liter biturbo diesel engine that is capable of producing 218 hp and 480 Nm of torque. This unit is likely paired only with an automatic gearbox. It will also be equipped with a 4WD shift-on-the-fly system to make it a competent machine on rough terrain. The 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline unit offered in the Maxus D90 in China is unlikely to be offered in the Gloster. The price will be in the Rs 45-50 lakhs rank.
