It was a moment of immense pride for T Shakeela, 52, of Madurai, as she witnessed her youngest son being commissioned as an Indian Army officer at the fainting parade held at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun on Saturday.
Wife of a retired military man, Shakeela had her oldest son also serving in the military as a major and now with her youngest son also in the military, she said it’s all her “good fortune.”
On Saturday, she had come with her husband Naik Shaukat Ali (retired) and their eldest son, eldest Javed Khan, to see their youngest son, Lieutenant Jafar Khan, 22, being commissioned as an army officer.
“My husband served for 22 years in the military and then my oldest son also joined the military. Today when my youngest son also became an officer in the Indian Army, I think this is the most memorable day for me. It is all my good luck that almighty has shown me this day, ”said Shakeela.

Expressing happiness while showering love on her youngest son Jafar, she said: “I have two sons, both of them wanted to join the army. I supported them to pursue their dreams, as nothing is greater than serving their nation. If I had two more children, I would have also given them to the army ”.
Reporting that her two sons went to Sainik School in Coimbatore with “excellent” grades, Shakeela said: “With the type of education I gave them, I am sure they will do their duty with complete integrity.”
Her husband Shaukat also expressed his happiness seeing their two sons wearing olive green like him.
“After having served in the military, there is nothing I could ask the Almighty than to see my two sons in the military. I’m proud of both, ”he said.
Jafar, who was commissioned into the army, said he was inspired to join his father’s army.
“I had dreamed in my own childhood of joining the army after seeing my father. I went to Sainik school after I took the NDA exam, but was only able to solve it on the third attempt followed by IMA to see this day. I am happy to have made my parents proud, ”he said.
