Mehbooba Mufti PDP holds first meeting after repeal of Article 370

For the first time after the revocation of Article 370, the youth leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) met to deliberate on various issues at the party’s headquarters in Srinagar after their first failed attempt.

The meeting was attended by the party’s vice president, Abdul Rehman Veeri and the general secretary, Ghulam Nabi Lone, both former ministers and several youth leaders. Previously, the PDP leaders’ attempt to hold their first meeting had failed as they were not allowed to leave their homes. The second meeting was called after the youth wing of the party asked the government for permission.

PDP Youth Chairman Waheed Para said they were allowed to organize the meeting at the party office in which several leaders participated.

Party officials said the continued detention of PDP Chairman Mehbooba Mufti was also discussed, as the former prime minister is the only prominent leader still reserved under the Public Security Act or the PSA.

Earlier, PDP leaders also held a demonstration seeking the release of Mehbooba and raised the issue of alleged human rights violations. Seven party leaders were arrested during the demonstration and subsequently released.

Para said that the resident had suffered a lot. “There is unending insecurity among young people with new fears of demographic change, attacks on work, culture and language,” he said, adding that their voices have been ignored and institutions erased.

“We cannot allow ourselves to remain silent any longer. We need to speak now to restore our dignity and take charge of our own destiny, ”added Para.

North Carolina Vice President Omar Abdullah welcomed the first political meeting held by the PDP.

“Good to see @YouthJKPDP start with political meetings. Political activities must be resumed without hindrance and the administration has a duty to ensure a level playing field for all political parties, ”Omar Abdullah tweeted.
