Srinagar:

Mehbooba Mufti, leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, has denounced that she has been “illegally detained once again” and that her daughter Iltija has been “placed under house arrest”.

Mufti said he is not allowed to visit the family of PPD youth wing chairman Waheed Parra, who was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday for his alleged links in a terrorism case involving the commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, Naveed Babu.

Waheed Parra is a close assistant to Ms. Mufti.

“I have been illegally detained once again. For two days, the administrator of J&K has refused to allow me to visit @parawahid’s family in Pulwama. BJP ministers and their puppets can move to all corners of Kashmir, but security is just an issue in my case, “Ms Mufti said in a series of tweets this morning. He also tweeted a photo of an armored vehicle outside the doors of his home.

Waheed Parra was instrumental in reactivating the PDP in southern Kashmir, especially in militancy-infested Pulwama, from where he also submitted his nomination for the District Development Council (DDC) elections, the first phase of which will be held on 28 of November.

His name came to light during the investigation into the case of suspended Deputy Police Superintendent Davinder Singh, who was arrested earlier this year while transporting two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in a vehicle on the Srinagar-Jammu highway.

Ms Mufti said he was arrested “on unfounded charges”, adding that her daighter was placed under house arrest because she also wanted to visit his family.

Mehbooba Mufti was scheduled to hold a press conference this afternoon. She was among dozens of political leaders arrested in August last year, when the central government ended Jammu and Kashmir’s special status under article 370 and divided it into two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. She was released in October.
