Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the role of dogs in various security operations in the country during his 68th speech at Mann Ki Baat on Sunday.

He praised the Indian Army dogs Vida, a Labrador retriever and a Sophie Cocker Spaniel who received ‘Commendation Cards’ from the Army Chief of Staff earlier this month on the 74th Independence Day.

Vida, from an army dog ​​unit located in the Northern Command, was instrumental in the detection of five mines and a grenade buried underground, thus avoiding victims or injuries to the troops themselves.

Sophie from the Special Frontier Force (Bomb Disposal Squad), on the other hand, is an explosives detection dog who sniffed out the presence of initiator / accelerator that could have been hastily used to make an IED, thus saving lives.

The prime minister praised the dogs for doing their duty and also urged people to bring home local breed dogs when planning to adopt a pet.

The army’s dog unit, affectionately called “The Silent Warriors,” has proven time and again to be an asset to security forces.

In addition, to increase the operational capabilities of its troops, the army had developed in December last year an audio and video surveillance system integrated with a bulletproof protective jacket, which can be stealthily mounted on army dogs to receive information about the location and strength of the enemy. from a safe distance.

The device’s camera and transmitter send the information to the receiver that can be at a safe distance of up to one km from the enemy’s location.
