New Delhi:
The media frenzy over Kangana Ranaut’s flight from Chandigarh to Mumbai on Wednesday, which completely defied the social distancing protocol, is under investigation after chaotic videos were shared on social media.
The General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has requested a report from IndiGo on the alleged “violation of the security protocol and social distancing by media personnel on flight 6E-264. Sources say the aviation regulator decided act upon detecting the videos, the airline said has responded.
In videos that have surfaced online, reporters are seen speaking into their microphones or recording mobile phone videos while reporting for their channels from the plane amid a savage chase of Kangana Ranaut, who was returning to Mumbai that day in the middle of a big dispute with the ruler Shiv Sena of Maharashtra.
Although the camera crew is wearing face shields, the purpose is defeated as the masks are off and everyone is fighting for a better view of Kangana Ranaut.
The media chaos intensified when the Mumbai civic agency began demolishing what it called illegal alterations to his office, even while he was on the way. In anticipation of the drama, the media continued their trip to Mumbai.
IndiGo, India’s largest private airline, said its own crew followed all protocols on that flight. “We would like to reiterate that our cabin crew, as well as the captain, followed all necessary protocols, including postings to restrict photography, follow social distancing, and maintain general safety. IndiGo also followed the required protocol of documenting this matter in your post-flight report. We are committed to providing a safe and seamless experience for our passengers, “he said.
In January, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Puri tweeted that “offensive behavior designed to provoke and create disturbances inside an aircraft is absolutely unacceptable and endangers the safety of air travelers.”
He had tweeted about the action against comedian Kunal Kamra, who had allegedly interrupted a television host on an IndiGo flight.
IndiGo banned Kamra from flying with the airline for six months.
