KOLKATA: Hitting the streets of the city for the fourth consecutive day, Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee reviewed the lockdown situation in two towns in southern Calcutta on Friday and urged residents to stay home.
He also said it was encouraging that more than 100 people have recovered from COVID-19 in Bengal.
Banerjee, during reconnaissance in his white SUV, asked everyone to offer prayers and perform religious rituals at home, until the viral illness was contained.
Earlier in the day, he had greeted people at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, and urged everyone to maintain community peace and harmony.
“May the house be mandir, gurdwara, mosque and church for all of us until we win the fight against the crown,” the CM said through shouts from inside his SUV, as residents of the Jadavpur bus stop area 8- B and Prince Anwar Shah Road. gathered in windows, balconies and terraces listening to the familiar voice.
Regretting that Bengalis were unable to announce ‘Nabobarsha’ (New Year) on April 14 with traditional fervor due to the closure, he said the situation required people to celebrate the day from the safety of their homes.
The CM urged everyone to maintain hygiene and comply with the closing regulations.
