LAHORE: Mumbai attack brain and Lashkar-e-Taiba (Leave) operations commander Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi he was arrested in Pakistan on Saturday on terrorist financing charges, an official said.
Lakhvi, who had been on bail since 2015 in the Mumbai attack case, was arrested by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab Province.
However, the CTD did not reveal the place of his arrest.
“Following an intelligence-based operation by CTD Punjab, LeT organization leader Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi he was arrested on charges of financing terrorism, ”he said.
He further said that Lakhvi, 61, was arrested in a terrorist financing case registered at a CTD Lahore police station.
“Lakhvi is accused of running a dispensary, using funds collected for the financing of terrorism. He and others also collected funds from this dispensary and used these funds for additional terrorist financing. He also used these funds for personal expenses,” the CTD said .
The CTD said that in addition to belonging to the banned organization LeT, Lakhvi is also a UN designated individual.
“His trial will take place before the Lahore Anti-Terror Court,” he added.
