Madhya Pradesh’s Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has alleged that a “massive cycle” of religious conversions under the guise of love is taking place in the country. Chouhan said that the condition of the lives of these women has gone from bad to worse, making it necessary to stop marriages for the wrong reasons, carried out through incentives, pressure, fear and temptation.
Chauhan was in Prayagraj on a personal visit to dip his father-in-law’s ashes in the Sangam.
Speaking on the controversial topic of ‘love jihad’, he said that state governments led by the BJP were introducing strict laws to curb religious conversions under the guise of love.
Speaking about the mass demonstrations against the Center’s new agricultural laws, Chouhan said there cannot be a farmer sympathizer like Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the three laws they oppose are in the interest of farmers.
Chouhan arrived in Sangam city on Saturday morning to submerge the ashes of his father-in-law Ghanshyam Das Masani, who recently passed away. MP CM was received at the Bamrauli airport by the UP Minister of Civil Aviation, Minority Welfare, Haj and Waqf Department, Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi.
Chouhan was also accompanied by his wife Sadhana Singh and some other relatives. The MP CM also met with the president of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, Mahant Narendra Giri, and performed religious rituals in Sangam.

Chouhan’s comments on Love Jihad came on a day when Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel gave his consent to an ordinance against forced or fraudulent religious conversions, which provides for prison terms of up to 10 years and fines of up to 50,000. rupees in different categories.
The Chouhan government in Madhya Pradesh has also indicated that it would double the length of the sentence to 10 years of rigorous prison from a 5-year sentence for cases of forced religious conversions and marriages by seduction or fraud.
