When launched, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny SUV will compete against the recently launched Mahindra Thar.
The Suzuki Jimny is one of the most anticipated models in India. For the first time ever, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny Sierra SUV has been captured in camera tests on Indian roads. The SUV was seen near the company’s manufacturing plant in Manesar. As seen in the spy photo, the test mule is a three-door version, which was presented at Auto Expo 2020. At the event, we saw the bigger Suzuki Jimny Sierra instead of the smaller one. Worldwide, the SUV is offered only in a 3-door version.

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny test mule looks very identical to the model we saw at the Expo. In white body color, the SUV has a classic square design with a tall body frame, circular headlights, round fog lamps, new alloy wheel design, rear door mounted spare wheel, integrated taillights in bumpers, side-opening tailgate and more.
For the Indian market, the Jimny SUV can be introduced to our market as a rebadged Gypsy as the nameplate still has a great cult following in the country. There is no information yet on the offer launch schedule. It will compete against the recently launched Mahindra Thar and the upcoming Force Gurkha in the segment. As for prices, they are likely to start below ₹ 10 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV will have a premium positioning that will likely be sold through Maruti’s Nexa retail channel.
Previously, there was a lot of speculation about the new generation of Jimny, specifically the 3 or 5 door version that would arrive in India. The automaker unveiled the off-road SUV at the Expo just to gauge the response of Indian consumers to the product.
