After a few months of posting high sales, Maruti’s sales have now registered a decline for November 2020

Sales in recent weeks have seen dealerships swarming with customers and new cars. With most of the pent-up demand satisfied in recent weeks, the holiday season proved to be one that did not disappoint most manufacturers. Total November 2020 sales reported by Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) are 1.35,775, down 2.4 percent from the 1.39,133 units in November 2019.

A place where MSIL feels comfortable and has been around for years. With nearly 50 percent dominance, it’s safe to say that one in two cars sold in India is from the house of Maruti, and no number of new launches from other manufacturers have been able to break that trend. In October 2020, sales reached an all-time high of 1,63,656 units. By comparison, a month-on-month decline is reported.

Of total sales, domestic sales are reported at 1.38,956 units, 1.7 percent less than 1.41,400 units. This includes 3,181 units of Super Carry LCVs. Total passenger vehicle sales fell 2.4 percent to 1.35,775 units, down from 1.39,133 units. Sales to other original equipment manufacturers grew in triple digits to 130.2 percent to 5,263 units from 2,286 units.

The recovery of the last two components helped improve total domestic sales, including other OEMs, to a 0.4 percent gain. Exports grew 29.7 percent, to 9,004 units from 6,944 units. This helped make overall sales green. The decrease in monthly sales is not entirely unexpected considering that a large number of purchases are planned to coincide with the days during the season, and the following period is usually one of less activity.

Sales of the mid-size Ciaz grew 29 percent to 1,870 units from 1,448 units. There was payback for their utility trucks and crossovers and the like. Its Ertiga vehicle group posted steady sales at just under 24,000 units, and Omni and Eeco sales grew 10 percent to 11,183 units.

With security still the primary focus for government in an increasingly populous nation, the surge in passenger car sales brought some joy. Due to the contribution to GDP of car sales and the contribution of the manufacturing sector to GDP, car sales are always viewed under a microscope.

India is currently in the middle of a recession having reported two consecutive quarters of decline. However, car sales have done their best to ensure that the third quarter of 2020 had sufficient activity compared to a mediocre one in the second quarter of 2020.

The same is true for the fourth quarter of 2020. Logically, the high October sales are not likely to repeat in December 2020. Although a final sales boost is expected due to the traditional pattern of offers designed to boost sales, considering that the vehicles of the new calendar year imply a price increase.
