MARKETS: Indices outside the low of the day; Sensex down 400 points, Nifty down 14,450


LIVE market updates: Indian benchmarks broke out of the day’s low, but were still more than 1 percent lower in Thursday’s no-trades, ahead of the March series derivatives contracts expiring.

The S&P BSE Sensex was trading around 440 points, or 0.9 percent, at 48,730 levels. The index had fallen to 48,236 in intraday trading. The Nifty50 index hovered around the 14,400 mark. IndusInd Bank fell 2% and was Sensex’s top laggard, followed by Axis Bank, State Bank of India, Bajaj Finance and Maruti Suzuki (all down more than 1%).

Laxmi Organic’s stock is trading at Rs 155.50 on the NSE, a 20 percent premium over the issue price, while Craftsman Automation is trading at a 9 percent discount.

All of Nifty’s industry indices traded in the red, with the Nifty Auto Index, down 3 percent, being the most bleeding.

In the broader markets, the S&P BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices fell 2.8% and 2.5%, respectively.
