MARKETS: Indices at highs for the day; Sensex rises 500 points, Nifty exceeds 14,700


LIVE MARKET: indices at the maximum of the day, Sensex up to 200 pts;  Nifty FMCG up 1%
LIVE market updates: Indian markets staged a smart recovery from morning lows to trade nearly 1% higher in midday deals on Friday.

The S&P BSE Sensex was trading around 49,710 levels, up 500 points. The index touched an intraday low of 48,587 at the beginning of the session. Meanwhile, the broader Nifty50 index surpassed the 14,700 mark. PowerGrid and NTPC were up 3% each and were the top winners. On the other hand, Larsen & Toubro was down 2 percent.

Among other individual actions, Future Retail shares fell 10 percent after the Delhi High Court upheld the Emergency Award that Amazon had won against the Future Retail-RIL settlement.

Easy Trip Planners shares are trading at Rs 213.5 on the NSE against the issue price of Rs 187 per share.

The Nifty sector indices were mixed, with the Nifty FMCG index, which was up 1 percent, leading the winners.

In the broader markets, however, the S&P BSE MidCap Index was flat while the SmallCap Index fell half a percent.
