Buying from financial accountants like HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv helped benchmark indices settle 0.6 percent higher on Friday.
The S&P BSE Sensex ended at 43,882, an increase of 282 points or 0.65%, while the NIFty of NSE ended at 12,859, an increase of 87 points or 0.68%.
Bajaj Finserv finished as the biggest winner on Sensex – over 9 percent to Rs 8,536.50, while Reliance Industries (down almost 4 percent) was the main loser. Of 30 voters, 23 advanced and 7 declined.
On a weekly basis, Sensex gained 0.5 percent, while Nifty added 0.68 percent.
In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap finished 1.22 percent higher at 16,436.50 levels, while the S&P BSE SmallCap Index gained 0.77 percent at 16,183 levels.
In Europe, stocks rose slightly as gains in retail and oil stocks offset concerns about US policy and stagnation over new stimulus measures to support a global economy ravaged by a pandemic.
In commodities, oil prices changed little, while gold prices were set for a second consecutive weekly decline, as the metal’s appeal came under pressure from promising tests of the Covid-19 vaccine and news that the US Treasury ended emergency loan programs.
