MUMBAI: The son of a prominent businessman died after the car he was traveling in crashed into a stationary bus on Marine Drive on Tuesday night. His friend, who was driving the vehicle, suffered serious injuries and is in the hospital.
The accident occurred about 100 meters before the Marine Drive overpass when the car was heading toward Chowpatty. Initial reports said there were three occupants in the vehicle.
The deceased, Aryaman Nagpal (18), was a resident of Nepean Sea Road, while his friend Shauryasingh Jain (19) was from Cuffe Parade. Jain has been admitted to Harkisondas Hospital. The car belonged to Jain’s maternal uncle.
Marine Drive police have recorded an accidental death case and can file a case of reckless and negligent driving and failure to comply with blocking orders.
Senior Inspector Mritunjay Hirematth said the hospital had given police officers the name of the injured young man. Police will now scan CCTV images for more details on the accident.
A person known to the victim said it was unclear why the youths had gone to Marine Drive during the shutdown. “If there had been adequate nakabandis, the children could have been detained,” said a source.
