Actor Khushbhu, who resigned from Congress and joined the BJP earlier this month, was arrested by Chengalpet police on Tuesday while on his way to Chidambaram to participate in a protest against Viduthalai leader Siruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the Thol Thirumavalvan MP for his alleged comments that Manusmriti denigrated women.
Moments after her arrest, Khushbu took to Twitter and wrote that the party will fight to its last breath for the dignity of women. In a series of tweets, Khushbu condemned VCK workers, called them cowards and said respecting women is alien to them. He also interrogated Tamil Nadu’s chief minister, Edappadi K Palaniswami, for blocking the BJP protest.
When your journey is forcibly interrupted, you know you are on the right track. Question @AIADMKOfficial north #CM by TN @EPSTamilNadu avl, why are we denied our democratic right to peaceful protest when other parties are given permission to do the same? Why this bias?

In a video taken after his arrest, Khushbu said that he used to call Thirumavalvan as ‘Anna’ (as a brother), but after his comments, he cannot address him in the same way. “I tell you, today they may have arrested me but tomorrow we will protest again. We will not drop this topic until Thirumavalavan apologizes. This BJP protest is for all the women and daughters of this country, ”he said.
I may have been arrested today, but we will protest again. This will continue until Thirumavalavan issues an apology. Talking about something that was written about 3000 years ago is unnecessary, #BJP will continue to fight for all women: Khushbu @IndianExpress pic.twitter.com/hjCSFvG0IH

On Monday, when VCK leader Thirumavalavan visited Erode to participate in a wedding, BJP cadres attempted to block his vehicle. They displayed black flags and raised slogans against him and demanded his apologies. Nearby VCK cadres also launched into slogans, and as a result a fight broke out between two sides. According to local reports, when police personnel arrested the BJP cadres and took them away in the police van, some of the VCK members allegedly threw stones, but no one was injured.
The VCK leader was booked by Chennai police on Friday after a BJP complaint. He faces charges in various sections of the IPC relating to outrage of religious sentiments, defamation of religion, causing alarm to the public and others.
