Delhi’s Chief Deputy Minister Manish Sisodia, who is among those leading the national capital’s fight against the coronavirus pandemic, tested positive for the virus on Monday. The leader confirmed his infection in a tweet and said he was in self-isolation to avoid transmitting the disease.

“After suffering from a mild fever, I took a coronavirus test and it came back positive. I have isolated myself. I have no fever or any other problems as of now, I am absolutely fine. With your prayers, I am sure I will go back to work after get my health back, “he tweeted in Hindi.

Earlier today, Mr. Sisodia, 48, skipped the one-day session of the Delhi Assembly due to fever. “Senior Deputy Minister Manish Sisodia will not attend today’s session because he has had a fever since last night,” President Ram Niwas Goel announced at the house.

Mr. Sisodia, the most prominent minister in Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s cabinet, had been active in Delhi’s fight against the pandemic. He had been speaking at virtual press conferences, inspecting Covid facilities and overseeing the management of the disease in the national capital for months, along with other ministers.

Last week, Sisodia, who has the education portfolio, announced that schools cannot increase their fees without government permission.

On Thursday he had met with representatives of hoteliers and restaurant owners in Delhi and assured them of necessary help during these difficult times.

Before him, his cabinet colleague, Health Minister Satyendre Jain, had tested positive for the virus and had recovered.

Delhi has seen a surge in daily cases in recent days. On Monday, the national capital registered 3,229 new cases in one day after reporting more than 4,000 cases a day for five days.

The total count of the national capital has reached 2,21,533 cases of which more than 28,600 are active.

The Delhi government has attributed the surge in Covid numbers to the recent surge in testing.
