Manipur Prime Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh said on Sunday that he had tested positive for Covid-19 and urged those in contact with him in recent days to get tested.
“Friends, today I have tested positive for Covid after having some symptoms,” Biren wrote on his Facebook page on Sunday.
“Everyone who has been around me in the last few days is asked to get tested,” he said. “I’m fine right now.”
In September this year, the Prime Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu, also tested positive for Covid 19.
Union Interior Minister Amit Shah, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Delhi Chief Deputy Minister Manish Sisodia They are among some of the top-tier politicians who tested positive for Covid-19 infection in the past two months before recovering.

On Saturday, five men succumbed to Covid-19 at four health centers in the state, according to health department officials. The cumulative number of recorded deaths due to Covid-19 has risen to 218.
With the recovery of 211 people infected with Covid-19, the total number of Covid-19 cases recovered in Manipur reached 18,334 on Saturday, officials said. The recovery rate in the state stands at 84.73%.
The cumulative number of positive cases registered in the state so far is 21,636, while the number of active cases is 3,084, according to official data.
So far, 452,128 people have been screened at various points of entry into the state, while 384,235 people have been screened for the disease, officials said.
