The southwestern district of Delhi withdrew an order on Sunday ordering isolation at a Covid Care Center or Covid Health Center for any Covid-19 patient over 60 years of age or with comorbidities. The Delhi government’s home isolation guidelines, similar to the central government guidelines, allow those who are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms to isolate themselves at home, provided there is enough space for them to isolate themselves from other family members.
Delhi Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal has described home isolation, along with aggressive testing, as the “most important strategy” to combat coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the city. In June, when the number of cases had last increased, the government had fought the deputy governor’s decision to make mandatory institutional quarantine for all Covid-19 patients.

According to data shared by the government, more than 101,000 patients have recovered in home isolation in the city and only 40 people died from the infection in home isolation as of September 17. Last week, the government directed all district commissioners to mandatorily switch any Covid-19 patients in home isolation to institutional isolation if they are found to be in violation of the guidelines.
The order from Southwest Delhi had arrived a day before this meeting. According to government data, as of September 17, 7,847 patients had recovered in the district in home isolation, there were 1,545 active cases, 110 people were transferred to hospitals, and none of the patients had died in home isolation.
