The first half of Saturday’s Manchester derby will not last in your memory.
Manchester United and Manchester City played an uneventful 45-minute opening at Old Trafford.
At best, it could be described as cautious. At worst, downright boring.
That said, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have been the happier of the two coaches at the halftime break.
His team had the best chances in the first half and was on top for long stretches of the first 45 minutes.
Scott McTominay should have put the hosts 1-0 up in the 11th minute when a Victor Lindelof header found him at the back post. The Scotsman, however, could not add the most important touch.
Harry Maguire then headed over the bar at the half hour mark before David de Gea landed a good save from Riyad Mahrez on the opposite end of the field.
However, there was another Fred moment shortly before the break that United fans loved.
The Brazilian, who has become such an important player for the Red Devils in the big games, beat Kevin De Bruyne with an exquisite roulette.
