Manchester United legend Roy Keane has said that he would expect Liverpool to retain their Premier League title this season.
Following Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, Keane said “it would take a lot” to beat this Liverpool side for the title this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s men galloped to the Premier League title last season, racking up 99 points and finishing 18 points ahead of Manchester City, who finished second.
This season, the Premier League table is much closer than last season. Leicester City currently lead the standings after eight games, but are only one point above Tottenham Hotspur, who lead Liverpool only on goal difference.
But for Keane, he has seen enough to put Liverpool as the favorite to win the league this season.
Keane was an expert on Sky Sports on Sunday and praised Liverpool’s quality.
“We know the quality of Liverpool, but I look at the body language, the mentality and the hunger of the teams that have won the league, and I see that a lot at this Liverpool,” he said.
“I still think it will take a lot to stop this team. I know they are not at their best, they are getting results.”
“But Jurgen Klopp will be delighted with that result. Winning championships is about dealing with setbacks and disappointments and I saw it today with Liverpool,” Keane concluded.
Keane also attacked Manchester City for falling short of their attacking options this season. City haven’t scored more than one goal in their last five Premier League games, and Keane said that was the result of not having the staff in place.
“I think the big concern for Manchester City, they are always brilliant to watch, but it is the lack of goals. I think it will be very difficult for them to win the league.” When you look at their team, only having two forwards, the management has to be critical of themselves. Only they are to blame. I don’t see Man City win the league this season, “he said.
