Manchester United fans demand the return of Cristiano Ronaldo as the club pays tribute to his century of goals with Portugal

England’s Manchester United team congratulated former club footballer Cristiano Ronaldo on Wednesday, who scored his 100th and 101st international goals for Portugal. “Congratulations to @Cristiano for a century of international goals for the @SelecaoPortugal #MUFC #Nations League,” read the tweet from the club’s official Twitter user. Fans were quick to call for Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United, where the Portuguese developed as a top-tier player under Sir Alex Ferguson, before being sold to Spanish club Real Madrid for a club record fee. The 35-year-old now has a contract with Italian Juventus, which has not dampened the enthusiasm of United fans, as is apparent from the reactions.

“TAKE IT HOME,” a fan tweeted in response to the club’s congratulatory post.

This was followed by a similar message from other fans, who encouraged the club to “make it happen.”

Popular Manchester United footballer Rio Ferdinand also praised Ronaldo more, expressing this in a video posted on the official FIFA World Cup Twitter account. “Some players don’t even score 100 goals in their entire career. This isn’t even about their club goals, this is just the national team. It’s crazy.”

Ronaldo is now the second player to have scored more than 100 international goals. Former Iranian footballer Ali Daei leads the charts with 109 goals.

The Portuguese footballer is followed by Ferenc Puskas and Godfrey Chitalu in third and fourth positions, with the pair scoring 84 and 79 goals respectively.

Portugal is currently at the top of their group with six points, with France in second place. Sweden and Croatia are placed in third and fourth place.
