Man United may ‘exploit’ the transfer market after coronavirus closes

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said the club should be in a position to “exploit” the transfer market once the window opens after the coronavirus closes.

FIFA has unveiled plans to allow transfer windows to move and allow for an extension to the European season, with all major leagues on the continent suspended due to the pandemic.

Solskjaer seeks to strengthen his team and has said that United’s strong financial position, even in a time of uncertainty, could give the club an advantage.

“Soccer will return to normal in a moment, and it is very important that we are ready when that happens,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

“So the market, who knows how the market is going to react to this? Who knows which clubs need to sell players?

“There could be a situation where you can exploit, and I know that at Man United we are one of the largest and most economically wealthy.”

Solskjaer watches over his players as they train at home during the shutdown after the team received individual programs to keep them fit.

He’s also using his extra free time to narrow down his transfer goal list with Executive Vice President Ed Woodward and the recruiting department as he looks to bring a striker, forward and other midfielder to Old Trafford.

“We want to be the best in everything and of course now is an opportunity to spend more time, they discuss players, they discuss plans,” he added. “We have evaluated what we need, of course, with the coaching staff we have examined the games, evaluated the games, discussing on video calls like this.”

“I am sure that we are capable, when we return to normality, that we can do the business that we want.”
