KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the Union government on Wednesday, alleging that the special economic package announced by him is of no help to the states and is “a big zero”.
Banerjee alleged that the central government was “deceiving the people” during the COVID-19 crisis.
“The special economic package announced by the Union government is nothing more than a big zero. It is an eyewash to fool people. There is nothing for the unorganized sector, public spending and job creation”, he said addressing a press conference here.
“Yesterday, when the Prime Minister announced the Rs 20 lakh crore package, we had hoped that the interest of the states would be examined, the FRBM limit would increase. But today, after the Union Finance Minister made the ads, it was discovered that all that was said yesterday was a bluff, “he said.
Striking at the Center for supposedly offering nothing to the financially hungry states, the Trinamool congressional supreme claimed he was trying to “crush” cooperative federalism.
