Amartya Sen’s name appeared on Visva Bharati University’s list of people illegally occupying the land.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee defended Nobel laureate Amartya Sen over reports that he was on Visva Bharati University’s list of illegal parcel holders and said such accusations were being made against him because “no leans towards the BJP ideology. “
“We all salute Senator Amartya. Just because he is not leaning towards the BJP ideology, they are making such accusations against him,” he said Thursday.
He had previously tweeted about Visva Bharati, who is celebrating her centenary.
“Visva Bharati University turns 100 years old. This temple of learning was Rabindranath Tagore’s greatest experiment in creating the ideal human being. We must preserve the vision and philosophy of this great visionary,” he said.
The media said Thursday that Visva Bharati has written to the state government alleging that dozens of his plots have been incorrectly registered and that the list of unauthorized occupants includes the eminent economist Amartya Sen.
