West bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Tuesday said that she was going to attend the opposition parties virtual meeting, convened by the Congress to discuss the Covid-19 the situation in the country and the impact of the blockade. The meeting, which will be chaired by the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, will take place on Friday.
“Yes, there will be a meeting of the opposition parties on Friday evening via video conferencing to discuss the present COVID situation and the blocking of impact. I’ll be there,” PTI quoted Banerjee as saying.
Around the 17 opposition parties have agreed to participate in the meeting, which will be held via video conferencing. The Party Samajwadi and the Bahujan Samaj Party have not yet confirmed their participation. Follow Coronavirus India LIVE Updates
A senior TMC leader told PTI, “The way in which the Centre had been trying to blame the states for everything that is unacceptable. This is because the Center of the sudden imposition of a blockade, the country is facing this migrant crisis.
“Like-minded opposition parties will meet via video conference on Friday at 3 pm to discuss the next steps that can be taken to tackle the crisis in a better way.”
The Congress and other opposition parties have criticised the Centre for allowing the BJP-ruled states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat to amend the labour law to attract foreign investors and “to deprive the workers of their basic rights.”
These changes include exempting the industrial units of welfare-to-work statutes, which allows them to take such measures as the increase of daily and weekly hours of work of workers, and depriving workers of their right to move the court.
