Bombay: Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases, the Maharashtra government has warned that movie theaters / hotels / restaurants will be requested to close if they are found to violate the Center’s COVID-19 rules and guidelines.
In its new order, issued Monday, the state government ordered the movie theaters / hotels / restaurants to follow COVID-related rules and warned that if they are found in violation, they will be asked to remain closed for a period until the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
It should be noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has been reported as a disaster by the central government.
This comes as Mumbai reported 1712 new cases and 4 deaths on Monday. With 1,063 recoveries, the city’s healed count has risen to 3,18,642. Mumbai currently has 3,45,659 cases of which 14,582 are active and 11,535 deaths.
Maharashtra has reported up to 15,051 COVID-19 cases pushing the total number of cases to 23,29,464, according to the health bulletin. Meanwhile, with 48 deaths in the past 24 hours, the death toll rose to 52,909. Currently, the number of active cases stands at 1,30,547.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Government also issued new guidelines limiting cinemas (single screen / multiplex) and hotels to 50% capacity, banning social / political / religious gatherings, 50 people allowed for weddings and 20 for funerals and all offices except health ones and essential at 50% capacity, advising work from home.
The new order will be in effect until March 31 to stop the spread of the coronavirus in the state. “All previous orders will be aligned with this order and will remain in effect until March 31, 2021,” the official statement read.
Under the new order, various restrictions have been imposed on restaurants, movie theaters, social gatherings, among other things. The state government decided on Thursday to impose a blockade on Nagpur district from March 15 to 21 due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the state.
Only essential services such as fruit and vegetable stores and milk stands will remain open, in accordance with the order issued by the district administration. Districts such as Amaravati, Yavatmal and Latur are already subject to restrictions.
