Maharashtra sees 778 Covid-19 cases, 14 deaths in biggest single-day jump

Maharashtra recorded a staggering count of 778 positive coronavirus cases on Thursday, the state’s highest jump in a single day thus far, bringing the total of Covid-19 to 6,427, health officials said.

Fourteen Covid-19 patients died Thursday, bringing the death toll from the deadly pathogen in the state to 283, officials said.

Of the new Covid-19 cases, the capital Mumbai registered 522 new cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the city’s count of positive coronavirus patients to 4,205. At least 167 people have died from the highly infectious disease so far in Mumbai.

To date, 840 coronavirus patients have recovered and been discharged from the state, according to data from the state health department.

The total number of coronavirus cases in India rose to 21,700 on Thursday, with a death toll of 686 across the country, according to data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. A total of 1,229 new positive cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the last 24 hours.

At least 34 people have died from the deadly infection since Wednesday.

A day earlier, on Wednesday, India had passed the 20,000 mark with 20,471 Covid-19 positive patients in the country.

Among the states, Maharashtra is the most affected state with the maximum number of patients with Covid-19, followed by Gujarat and Delhi, the national capital, which ranks third.
