Maharashtra records highest peak in a single day in Covid-19 count with 1,278 new cases

Maharashtra reported 1,278 new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday, bringing its case count to 22,171. The state also witnessed 53 virus-related deaths in the past 24 hours, and its total number of deaths reached 832.

Mumbai, the state capital, treated 875 more coronavirus patients on Sunday, bringing its total cases to 13,564 and 19 more deaths bringing their death toll to 508.

While explaining the increase, a state health official said 665 patients detected in the past few days were updated and included in the 1,278 cases according to a list prepared by the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR).

Of the 53 deaths, 19 were reported from Mumbai, 14 from Malegaon in Nashik district, five from Pune and Jalgaon, two in Dhule, one from rural Dhule, Pimpri Chinchwad, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Nandurbar, Solapur and Vasai-Virar, he said.

“The 14 Covid-19 deaths in Malegaon were from the period from April 27 to May 10. They have been reported today,” he said, adding that a person from Madhya Pradesh also died from Covid-19 in Mumbai. .

While 2.44,327 people are under house quarantine, 14,465 are under institutional quarantine, the official said.

Pune, another coronavirus hot spot, has so far reported 2,377 cases and 146 deaths, he said.

The Thane division, which consists of the city of Mumbai, reported 16,680 cases and 544 deaths, while the Pune division reported 3,048 cases and 168 deaths so far, he said.

The Nashik division has 976 positive cases of COVID-19 and reported 64 deaths followed by the Kolhapur division that reported 98 cases and three deaths, he said.

Aurangabad has 641 positive cases and reported 14 deaths, while the Latur division 73 cases and four deaths, he said.

The number of cases in the Vidarbha region is 362 cases and 24 deaths in the Akola division, and 257 cases and two deaths in the Nagpur division, he added.

A total of 36 people from other states are receiving treatment in Maharashtra, while nine patients have succumbed to COVID-19 infection so far, the official said.

So far, the state has conducted 2.38,766 tests, of which 2.15,903 were negative and 22,171 were positive.

The number of containment areas is 1,237 and 12,768 squadrons have completed the surveillance of 55.61 lakh population.

So far, the state government has discharged 4,199 patients after recovery, he added.
