On Sunday, it registered 18,056 new positive cases of coronavirus. However, today’s number is a sharp drop after the worst-hit state in the country reported several months of more than 11,000 new cases.
The state tally has reached 13,51,153, which includes 35,751 deaths and 10,49,947 recoveries, according to the health bulletin.
Of these, 180 people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, while 19,932 patients recovered successfully in the same time period. The fatality rate stands at 2.65%.
Of the 180 deaths reported Monday, 98 were from the past 48 hours, while 45 deaths occurred in the past week, the department said, adding that another 37 deaths were from the period before the last week.
Active cases stand at 2.65.033.
Of these, the Covid-19 count in Mumbai slum Dharavi increased to 3,152 with the addition of 12 new cases on Monday, a senior BMC official said.
After reporting seven new cases on September 25, Dharavi has been recording double-digit daily infections (between 10 and 20) for the past three days.
Maharashtra’s recovery rate is 77.71%.
The city of Mumbai reported 2,163 new cases during the day, bringing its overall case count to 1,92,427, while its death toll rose to 8,658 with 54 new deaths.
The city of Pune added 1,572 COVID-19 cases, bringing its count to 1,47,634, while 26 deaths brought the death toll to 3,355.
Of the 459 deaths reported Thursday, 256 occurred in the past 48 hours, while 125 occurred in the past week. Another 78 deaths had occurred even before that, the official said.
The Mumbai division, consisting of the city of Mumbai and the satellite towns, reported 4,740 new cases, bringing the region’s total count to 4,53,457.
A total of 15,178 people have died so far in the region, the official said.
The number of cases in the Pune division stood at 3,40,705 and the death toll at 7,397.
The Nashik Division’s cumulative case count was 1.69,509 and the death toll was 3,453.
The Kolhapur division has reported 86,514 cases and 2,568 deaths so far, while the Aurangabad division case count stood at 48,823 and the death count at 1,257.
The Latur division has reported 50,763 cases so far and 1,394 deaths.
Akola’s division has reported 37,207 cases, while 812 people have succumbed to the infection so far.
The Nagpur Division has recorded 94,550 infections and 2,164 deaths.
1,435 people from outside of Maharashtra were treated for coronavirus in the state, and 122 of them died.
So far, more than 66 lakhs of COVID-19 tests have been conducted in the state, of which more than 13 lakhs or 20.40 percent have tested positive.
Up to 19,75,923 people were placed in home quarantine, while 29,922 are in institutional quarantine.
Amid these numbers, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday allowed bars, restaurants and other catering establishments to restart operations from the first week of October.
The decision was made after a meeting between industry organizations and the CM, according to a government statement.
The hotels, bars and restaurants that have been greatly affected by the closure of the covid-19 have survived thanks to home deliveries.
Meanwhile, India’s total recoveries have passed the all-time high of 50 lakh on Monday with a total of 50,16,520. At least 74,893 recoveries have been registered in the last 24 hours in the country.
The national recovery rate has increased to 82.58% with 15 states / TU showing a recovery rate higher than the national average. 73% of the new recovered cases are being reported in ten states viz. Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Kerala, Odisha, West Bengal and Punjab.
Maharashtra leads the count with more than 13,000 new recovered patient cases, the government said, adding that the increase in total recovered cases of 1 lakh in June 2020 has been pronounced. The last 10 lakh recoveries were added in just 11 days.
