Maharashtra re-enforces blockade in Mumbai, Pune after count crosses 5,000 mark

Mumbai The Maharashtra government decided to re-establish a full closure in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR), just a day after some restrictions were partially lifted. “In view of the large number of people relocating due to the relaxation issued under the order of April 17 (which allowed a partial lifting of the blockade) and also the imminent threat of further spread of the pandemic, it is ordered that in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Pune Metropolitan Region, the order issued on April 17 will not apply and the position that prevailed prior to the issuance of the order on April 17 will be reinstated. “

In the order of April 17, the government of Maharashtra issued guidelines on the partial lifting of the blockade since April 20. Among the sectors that have been allowed to resume activities are agriculture and its branches (horticulture, fishing, plantations, animal husbandry, activities related to forests), MNREGA work, cargo movement, operation of commercial establishments and private, industries operating in rural areas, Manufacturing can also be resumed in special economic zones and municipal industries only in non-containment zones, road construction, buildings and all kinds of industrial projects, renewable energy projects and all work urgent related to premonsoon. With Tuesday’s order, all of these activities will again be rejected at MMR and PMR, the state’s two largest metropolitan areas.

By Tuesday night, Maharashtra reported 5,218 positive covid-19 cases and 251 deaths, increasing by 552 cases and 19 deaths since Monday. Most of the cases are from Mumbai (3,451 cases, 151 deaths) and several areas within the city have been identified as critical areas and sealed off by municipal authorities.
